Active Campaign

Azadi from Dehydration

Educate. Equip. Hydrate. Pledge. Launching 15 August 2026.

Schools across Mulbagal & Kolar District, Karnataka

About this campaign

Azadi from Dehydration is a school-based awareness and outreach campaign designed to promote the importance of hydration among children. Through visits to schools, UZAK volunteers conduct engaging awareness sessions that help students understand dehydration, recognise its common warning signs, learn healthy hydration habits, and understand why drinking safe water regularly — particularly during school activities, sports and outdoor play — matters. Every participating student receives a reusable water bottle: a practical, everyday reminder to stay hydrated. Rather than a single Independence Day event, the campaign is built to create lasting awareness and healthier daily habits that travel home with every child who takes part.

The Challenge

447 million children worldwide lack safe drinking water at school.

This Independence Day, we're connecting the spirit of freedom with something every child needs but few are taught to protect: the freedom to learn, play and grow while properly hydrated. UNICEF reports that 447 million children worldwide lacked access to a basic drinking-water service at their school in 2023 — a gap that shows up quietly, in tired afternoons, headaches and lost concentration, long before anyone calls it what it is. Azadi from Dehydration is UZAK's school-based response: direct visits, honest conversations about a health issue that's rarely discussed, and a reusable bottle placed in every participating student's hands.

The most common reasons: Limited access to safe drinking water at school, low awareness of dehydration's warning signs, no personal water bottle to carry through the school day, hydration overlooked during sports and outdoor play, and no daily habit or reminder to drink water regularly.

The Solution

Here's how we're changing that.

Azadi from Dehydration

A school visit built around education, action and a pledge.

Each session combines interactive teaching with hands-on hydration activities designed for a classroom of children, not a lecture hall. Volunteers walk students through what dehydration actually is, how to recognise its early warning signs, and why drinking safe water regularly — especially during sports, outdoor play and the school day — protects their ability to learn and play at their best. Every session closes with the same moment: the whole class stands together and takes the Hydration Pledge, turning what they just learned into a personal commitment they carry with them, not just something they heard once.

Azadi from Dehydration

Sponsor a Bottle. Support a Child.

Every participating student receives a reusable water bottle — a practical tool that turns a classroom lesson into a daily habit. Each bottle costs ₹100, and that's the full cost of giving one child both the awareness and the means to stay hydrated. Sponsors can support one student for ₹100, a classroom of 10 for ₹1,000, or scale further — ₹5,000 reaches 50 students, ₹10,000 reaches 100. Individuals, organisations, businesses and well-wishers are all welcome to sponsor a bottle, a classroom, or an entire school.

A generation of students who understand their bodies, carry a bottle instead of a warning sign, and treat daily hydration as a habit — not an afterthought.

What Changes for a Child

From unaware and dehydrated to informed, equipped and hydrated.

Before

  • Unaware of dehydration's warning signs
  • No personal water bottle to carry through the school day
  • Inconsistent water intake during school, sports and play
  • Hydration not yet part of a daily routine
  • No practical reminder to drink water regularly

After

  • Understands dehydration and how to recognise it early
  • Owns a reusable water bottle from UZAK
  • Has taken the Hydration Pledge, together with their class
  • Carries a daily hydration habit into sports and play
  • Brings the message home to family and friends

This campaign is active in Mulbagal, Kolar, Tayalur, Nualabande, Balsandar and other communities across Karnataka. We'll publish participation and impact numbers here as sessions get underway.

I pledge to take care of my health and stay properly hydrated. I will drink safe water regularly, especially during school, sports and outdoor activities. I will make healthy hydration a part of my daily routine and encourage my friends and family to do the same. Together, we can stay hydrated, stay healthy and help others do the same.
