About this campaign
Swasth Sakhi Postpartum Care provides a comprehensive Postpartum Care Kit to mothers during their first 42 days after delivery — the period most critical for healing, breastfeeding and bonding with a newborn. Working through hospitals, Primary and Community Health Centres, ASHA workers, ANMs and Anganwadi centres, the initiative identifies and verifies mothers through hospital referral, then delivers a kit designed with healthcare professionals to support recovery, hygiene, nutrition and safe newborn care, with home visits and follow-up from health workers afterward.
The Challenge
The weeks after childbirth are the most overlooked in a mother's care.
So much attention goes into pregnancy and delivery that the weeks after childbirth — the so-called "fourth trimester" — are often the most overlooked part of a mother's journey, especially in rural and economically disadvantaged communities. Many new mothers return home without hygiene essentials, nutritional support or breastfeeding guidance, at exactly the point when their body and their newborn need it most. Swasth Sakhi Postpartum Care is UZAK Charitable Trust's maternal health initiative, built to make sure that gap doesn't go unfilled.
The most common reasons: Poor maternal nutrition after delivery, limited access to hygiene products, lack of breastfeeding awareness and support, postpartum depression and anxiety going unaddressed, and limited healthcare access in rural areas.
The Solution
Here's how we're changing that.
Identified, verified, and followed up — not just handed a kit.
Every Swasth Sakhi kit reaches a mother through hospital referral and verification by ASHA workers or ANMs, ensuring it goes to those who need it most. Distribution happens directly at government hospitals, PHCs, CHCs and Anganwadi centres during the critical first six weeks after delivery, and health workers follow up with home visits afterward — so a mother isn't just handed a kit once, but supported through the recovery period itself.
₹3,000 supports two lives — a mother and her newborn.
Sponsoring a mother costs ₹3,000 and covers a complete Postpartum Care Kit — maternity hygiene essentials, a nursing bra and breast pads, newborn care items, a nutrition pack, and guidebooks on breastfeeding, recovery and postpartum mental wellness. If you'd rather give your time, the campaign welcomes gynaecologists, nurses, lactation consultants, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, nutritionists and community volunteers to support awareness sessions, kit distribution and follow-up visits. Every mother who recovers with proper care and confidence gives her newborn a healthier start in life.
